Meeting YA Author Maggie Stiefvater
I know! I’ve been going to a lot of author events lately and it’s kind of crazy. It seems like for years almost no authors would come to my area, and then — for some reason — 2013 became a really nice year for YA author events.
Maggie Stiefvater is the NYT bestselling author of the Shiver series. Her more recently books are The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves.
I haven’t read everything she’s written (yet), but what I have read I’ve enjoyed a great deal.
Let me just say this: If you have a chance to see Maggie Stiefvater speak, take it!
She is hilarious. Really, really hilarious and completely entertaining. I brought a friend with me (a non-bookish friend at that) and he still had fun. She’s always joking and tell rather incredible (and strangely real) stories about her writing process.
Oh, and best of all, she let the audience spray paint and draw on her car. Yeah, that’s right. She let anyone who wanted to decorate her car. How can you not love someone who does that? You can see a video and blog post she wrote about it here.
Plus, she brought a few people up from the audience to read a passage of The Dream Thieves and it was pretty amusing. One of the people from audience was Tessa Gratton. As some of you know, I saw Tessa Gratton last week at another event and she’s one of my favorite authors. So getting to see two great authors at the same time was kind of mind blowing. I just wish Brenna Yovanoff was there too. Then I would have all the signatures for The Curiosities (which is an amazing short story collection that they wrote together).
I’m extremely excited to read The Dream Thieves now!
Have you seen Maggie Stiefvater talk? Or read any of her books?
